“I am that garden forgotten by the Spring,” wrote Bahadur Shah Zafar about himself...

When a soul launches itself into a voyage of discovery in the tumultuous oceans of Life and gets engulfed and lost, words fail us. Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last of the Moghuls was a Sufi Urdu poet non pareil. Forsaken by his father, he was a lamb as the Emperor, with only the Red Fort as his fiefdom. The British exiled him from Delhi in 1857, after Major Hodson, the Devil incarnate, presented the decapitated heads of his own sons to him as Nowruz gifts. He remained calm, it is said.

Stones will melt when we listen to Mohammed Rafi singing Zafar’s ‘lagta nahin dil mera...’. Why the Spring? All the seasons passed Zafar by.
